Concessions Intern-Detroit Sportservice-Comerica Park - Detroit Tigers (Detroit, MI)

The Internship program is for students interested in working in our Sportservice operations. Opportunities are available in Concessions. You will participate in either an internship or co-operative program, working at our operations at an hourly supervisor level. You will have the opportunity to get exposed to our business, develop your management skills, and determine if you would like to pursue a career in our industry. The program will consist primarily of on-the-job training, complemented with some online training programs.

Once you are placed in an internship/co-op program, your performance and progress will be reviewed on a regular basis by the unit management. Those students that are successful in their first season will be invited back for the following year.

Upon Graduation from your respective college or university, you will be considered for the permanent position with the company. The level of the position will be dependent on your performance and the operational needs of the company. The individuals that participate in the program and obtain placement with the company may be promoted into a higher level management position over a 1-3 year period, provided they demonstrate excellent performance.

Your Role: Sportservice interns will be expected to perform duties as assigned by his/her direct supervisor, as well as the required functional responsibilities of the position, which may include: Supervise the activities of assigned food service or retail personnel; schedule employees; ensure quality of employee performance; handling disciplinary matters. Assist in preparation of various accounting functions and operational reports: help to maintain cash and inventory control. Maintain positive customer relations; ensure that high service standards are met.

Our Expectations: We are seeking highly-motivated, hard-working individuals with a genuine interest in a management career in sports and entertainment. Knowledge of food service and/or previous experience in a food service environment is preferred; excellent oral and written communication skills. Hospitality, restaurant management, Management, and business majors preferred. Interested candidates must have the ability to relocate from assigned location upon graduation. Position Summary

Oversees operation of assigned concessions outlets, supervises concessions associates and non-profit volunteers (if applicable), in accordance with the Company’s Guest Path Universal Service Standards and applicable Operational Standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises and coordinates activities of concession associates on a per shift basis, including scheduling, training, counseling and enforcing work procedures and service standards

·         Observes, evaluates, and documents job performance of stand attendants, stand leaders, and assists with stand personnel performance.

·         Inspects all stands and portables in the assigned area.

  • Ensures that all equipment is set up properly and operating efficiently and accurately.
  • Ensures all stands, portable carts and surrounding areas remain clean, sanitized, and safe
  • Analyzes and resolves all problems with associates, guests, and the operation with the assistance of management.
  • Cashes out associates following cash handling procedures; investigates “over and shorts” with stand leaders and volunteer groups.

·         Estimates, requests, and inspects supplies and inventory.

  • Ensures accuracy of all deliveries
  • Adheres to and enforces inventory and labor control measures
  • Performs opening and closing procedures for assigned area

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Non-essential Functions:

  • Assists concession associates in serving guests as business levels demand

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in foodservice and/or fine dining position required; previous experience as a stand attendant or stand manager preferred.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Stand Manager or Level Supervisor, serve food and beverages in concessions in accordance with the Company’s Guest Path Universal Service Standards and applicable Operational Standards.

Essential Functions:

Food & Beverage Service duties

·         Greets guests approaching stand

·         Serves food and beverage items in correct proportions, following proper sanitation guidelines

·         Serves alcoholic beverages responsibly, requests identification, adheres to all unit and company alcohol service policies and procedures.

·         Records all waste.

·         Acquaints guests with items for sale and uses suggestive selling techniques

·         Participates in set-up of stand, arranges inventory, notifies Stand Lead of any inventory deficiency or shortages

·         Performs clean-up duties in the stand to maintain the quality appearance of the work area, including cleaning equipment.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Cashier Duties (if applicable)

·         Properly records all transactions via the point of sale system and inform guests of the amounts owed.

·         Collects the proper money for food and beverage items; processes credit card or determines correct change for guests.

·         Accounts for all transactions; maintains accurate cash count and balance banks at end of shift

POSITION SUMMARY

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversees the entire production of food prep for the Concessions Department
  • Prepares food to specifications before and during unit operations.

• Properly measures and portions all food items. Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies and procedures.
• Cooks all food to proper specifications in a timely manner.
• Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as: knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens, etc.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
• Must be ServSafe Certified and participation/enrollment in culinary program a plus
• Minimum of 2-5 years previous experience in high volume back-of-the-house foodservice position preferred

General Summary:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees operations of Team Store and Tiger Town including Staffing, Merchandising, Displays to maximize sales and profits.
  • Develops schedules and staffing plans for all stores. Submit to Retail Director for final approval.
  • Maintains retail standards and policies through level supervisors.
  • Provide direction to Level Supervisors with In-Store Merchandising and Displays.
  • Works with Level Supervisors to develop and implement Customer and Employee Promotions; Daily/Monthly.

  • Maintains consistent/effective communication with Retail Director, Retail Operations Manager, Level Supervisors and Associates.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary, but not limited to, by the Retail Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of merchandising techniques and retail operations.
  • Knowledge of cash handling and credit card handling policies and procedures.
  • Ability to train personnel.
